A Bit About Me:
How do I know about this stuff?
I was introduced to studio learning environments from the pioneers of the Student Centered Active Learning Environment for Undergraduate Programs (SCALE-UP) at North Carolina State University (NCSU). As a graduate student, I had the privilege of working with Dr. Robert Beichner and Dr. John Risley initially as a teaching assistant and subsequently as a lead instructor for SCALE-UP introductory physics courses at NCSU.
I have completed my work at NCSU, yet the experiences of working in the SCALE-UP courses continue to influence my teaching approach. For all courses that I teach, I place an emphasis on the integration of active learning techniques. While such an approach takes additional effort versus preparing a traditional lecture style class, I consider the endeavor to be well worth it. For those who decide to take the plunge into the studio approach, I wish you the best! In my experience, the community of studio instructors is quite supportive. I hope that this website will be a useful starting point for you. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if you have additional resources to add to this website!
